Remitly, a U.S.-based money transfer company has solicited the patronage of Nigerians living in U.S. to boost its business.

Remitly director, Mohammed Mardah, who made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in New York also called for stronger partnership with the Nigerian community associations.

Mardah said the company was founded to meet the money transfer needs of Nigerians in the diaspora, that of African diaspora and the immigrant population in the U.S.

Remitly is an American online remittance service based in Seattle, United States that offers international money transfers money to over 159 countries, including Nigeria.

He told NAN that the company had been supporting cultural events organised by some Nigerian associations, especially the Independence Day parade and carnival.

“We are calling on Nigerians to patronise us because the more you support us, the more we can invest back into the community.

“We have been doing this for many years.

“We are the only money transfer company that has consistently supported the Nigerian Independence Day events and we have done that for 10 years.

“We are encouraging people, send money through us and we will continue to support Nigerian people, not only here, not only in diaspora but back home in the continent,” the official said.

According to him, Nigeria is one of the largest economies in Africa and it is a very important market for the company.

In addition, Mardah said Nigeria is one of the leading communities in the U.S., noting that partnership and collaboration with the community is extremely important.

“This company was founded based on community support, that is why we feel it’s very important for us to support events organised by the community.’’

He told the history of the company, which was founded by an African (a Kenyan) who longed to invest back to the Africa.

“We see the need to invest back into communities, we support events in African communities and throughout the diaspora.

“New York is the biggest market, the leadership of the Nigerian community needed a reliable company and they engage us, the leadership trust us and we know how to navigate through the community.

“So, we tell them that whenever they have an event, let us know, this is what Remitly is known for, supporting diaspora communities in the U.S.,” he said.
