The traditional ruler of Amassoma in Bayelsa, Chief Sharp Sego, has described Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, the first civilian governor of the state, as a father to his people.

Sego said in Amassoma, the home place of the former governor, Monday, that his sudden death on Sunday was a heavy loss not only to the community but Bayelsa and Nigeria at large.

“It is unbelievable that the man, Alamieyeseigha is dead; this man was like a god to our community.

“In fact, when the news came to us, we were all shocked; boys, girls, men and women were sad. Alameiyeseigha was one of the best leaders we ever had in this community.

“I must say that he was just like a father and grandfather to all of us in this area.

“Our mouthpiece is gone; who can speak for us now, especially in this period that Bayelsa is preparing for its governorship election,” he said.

Sego said that Alamieyeseigha had impacted on the development of mankind and the Ijaw nation, having given so much to his people as the Niger-Delta University was built by him.

“For us here in Amassoma, Alamieyeseigha was like god to his people; we are missing him already, but we pray that the Almighty God will give his soul eternal peace,” Sego said.

He said that the people in collaboration with government officials would plan a befitting burial for the former governor.
