Finidi George unveils new Coaching Team for Nigeria’s Super Eagles

Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George, has announced his coaching staff, including two foreigners and his former teammate, Daniel Amokachi, as assistants.

The unveiling took place on Monday, May 13, 2024 at an event organized by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). Finidi George and the new crew will make their debut during the Super Eagles’ upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin Republic.

Additionally, Finidi retained Olatunji Baruwa, the goalkeeper’s trainer from the previous coaching setup under Jose Peseiro.

To fully focus on his new role, Finidi officially resigned from his position as head coach of Enyimba Football Club on Sunday, May 12. He emphasised the importance of players demonstrating consistent playing time at their clubs and showing unwavering commitment to the national team.

Finidi highlighted the pledge made by players to prioritize Nigeria and echoed his own dedication to the country, citing his experiences abroad and the treatment of Nigerian athletes.

He stated, “Selection of players? You have to be playing at your club and you must have that commitment. We all said the pledge, and for me as a coach, that’s what I’m going to do. For me, Nigeria is first because I have been out of this country and I know the treatment we get outside of this country.

“I put Nigeria first, and that is the same commitment and loyalty expected from each and every player that is invited. If you can do that, you are good to go,” remarked the new Super Eagles boss.
