Bishop Kukah backs fight against human trafficking in Nigeria

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah has declared support for the fight against human trafficking and all forms of inhuman treatment in Nigeria.

Bishop Kukah, who made the pledge when the Sokoto State chapter of Network Against Child Trafficking, Abuse and Labour (NACTAL) led by its National President, Abdulganiyu Abubakar paid him an advocacy visit, added that, he has been an advocate of anti-human trafficking policies and had championed actions against all forms of inhuman treatment within and outside the shores of the country.

Kukah, the outspoken and globally respected clergyman, also promised to be present at the forthcoming training to mark the 2024 World Day Against Human Trafficking.

The training, expected to be organized by USAID Nigeria SCALE Project in collaboration with NACTAL Nigeria is expected to bring Religious and Traditional Leaders and Community Structures in Sokoto together to dialogue on “Countering Trafficking in Persons.”

Speaking earlier, the NACTAL National President, Abdulganiyu Abubakar said they came to seek blessings from the revered man of God for the series of activities lined up to commemorate the 2024 World Day Against Human Trafficking.

The NACTAL National President further extended invitation to Bishop Kukah to lend his voice to the struggle towards realizing a Nigeria devoid of trafficking and all forms of inhuman treatments.

On his part, the Sokoto state Coordinator of NACTAL Nigeria, Rufus Yagkong, divulged that both Muslims and Christian leaders in Sokoto state have indicated commitment to partner with NACTAL in sustaining the awareness campaign on the ills of Human Trafficking.
