Africana Institute, Essex County College, Newark, New Jersey, USA, hosts 12th Annual State of Black Writers Symposium

The Africana Institute of Essex County College, Newark, New Jersey, United States of America (USA) will tomorrow, Thursday, November 21, 2024, host its highly anticipated 12th Annual State of the Black Writers Symposium.

The event will take place from 10:00 AM to 2:30 PM at the Main Campus of the Institute, inside Siegler Hall, located on the second floor. The symposium brings together a distinguished group of authors, scholars, and cultural leaders to explore the current landscape of Black writing and its impact on literature, culture, and society.

The event will be moderated by Dr. Akil Kokayi Khalfani, the Director of the Institute and Author of the “The Hidden Debate,” and will feature a distinguished panel of thought leaders and authors, including Dr. Todd Steven, Chief Oluwole Ifakunle, Ra’ShyAlah Sakura, Dr. Phyllis Bivins-Hudson, Lawrence Hamm, Sean Battle, Cullen and Elitia Mattox, Nasheed Gifted and Joshua Rosenbaum.

These experts will guide the discussions, sharing their insights on the symposium’s theme and engaging with attendees on the evolving role of Black writers in today’s literary world.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from these and other respected authors and community leaders as they delve into critical issues affecting the Black literary community, from historical narratives to contemporary expressions of identity. The symposium aims to create an open forum for reflection, dialogue, and inspiration among writers, scholars, and anyone passionate about the power of Black storytelling.

In addition to in-person participation, the event will be accessible virtually via Zoom, ensuring that a wider audience can be part of the discussions.
