IGP urges new Police Constables graduates to uphold professionalism, avoid misconduct
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olukayode Egbetokun, has called on 454 newly graduated Police Constables to maintain professionalism and avoid unprofessional behaviour and lawlessness.
Egbetokun made this statement at the passing-out ceremony for the 2022 batch of recruit constables at the Police Training School in Minna. He was represented by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) for Zone 7, Abuja, Benneth Igweh.
Out of the 454 newly trained constables, 343 are from Niger State, and 111 are from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In his address, the IGP highlighted that completing the training and passing out marks a major achievement and a significant step for the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu.
A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer noted that this achievement demonstrates the government’s commitment to strengthening the police force, particularly by addressing the long-standing shortage of personnel. The President has approved the recruitment of 30,000 constables each year for the next few years, aimed at improving internal security and police performance across Nigeria.
The IGP urged the new constables to remember that their duty requires the highest levels of professionalism and integrity. He emphasised the importance of following the law and proper procedures while avoiding misconduct, human rights violations, and lawlessness. He reminded them to use their authority responsibly to protect citizens, uphold the law, and catch criminals.
Egbetokun concluded by congratulating the new constables and their families.
The event was also attended by dignitaries, including the Hon. Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, the Commissioner of Police for Niger State, CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, representatives of the Police Service Commission, heads of other security agencies in the state, the Emir of Minna’s representative, senior officers, and families of the graduates.
