Governor Diri dismisses rumours linking him to Nengi’s pregnancy

Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has firmly denied allegations that he is responsible for the pregnancy of reality TV star Nengi Hampson, describing the rumours as false and politically motivated.

A viral post on Monday alleged that Governor Diri had secretly fathered a child with the Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) Season 5 star, sparking widespread speculation on social media. However, both Nengi and the governor’s media team have refuted the claims.

Governor Diri’s Director-General of New Media, Samuel Oredipe, dismissed the allegation as an attempt to tarnish the governor’s reputation.

“The BBN Nengi trending story has nothing to do with Governor Diri! Nengi Rebecca Hampson has no personal relationship with the governor,” Oredipe stated in a Facebook post.

He further described the claims as fake news pushed by political adversaries who are uncomfortable with Governor Diri’s rising political profile.

“It is regrettable that purveyors of falsehood are seeking to distract the public, especially at a time when Bayelsa State is celebrating the fifth anniversary of the Prosperity Administration,” the statement read.

The governor’s media aide emphasized that Diri remains focused on governance, highlighting that while his administration was inaugurating a new road in Yenagoa, social media was being flooded with baseless accusations.

“This is nothing but a distraction. Governor Diri is a man of honour and dignity, and no amount of fake news will derail his commitment to the people of Bayelsa.”

The statement also hinted at the growing concerns over misinformation on social media, calling for stricter measures to curb the spread of falsehoods.

Nengi also took to social media to debunk the rumours, clarifying that she is not pregnant for any governor and condemning those spreading false narratives about her personal life.

“I won’t allow a beautiful, personal part of my life to be turned into something ugly. While I continue to mind my business and enjoy my pregnancy in peace, I wish y’all love and a happy Valentine’s weekend,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The allegations reportedly originated from Gistlover, a popular faceless blog known for publishing celebrity controversies. The blog had claimed that the governor was secretly involved with Nengi and was allegedly misusing public funds to support her lifestyle.
