Empire State Building, other major landmarks light up for Rare Disease Day 2025


Friday, February 28, 2025 is Rare Disease Day.
It is a day set aside to raise awareness for rare diseases all over the world and improve access to treatment and medical representation for the about 300 million people worldwide with rare diseases and their families.
The United Nations (UN) in 2021 issued its first resolution on Rare Diseases. The Rare Diseases Day falls on the last day of February every year, and this is because in leap years, the Day falls on February 29, the rarest date in the calendar.
The theme of the Rare Disease Day 2025 is “More than you can imagine; an anthology of rare experiences,” and the theme is chosen to highlight the challenges of living with a rare disease, to raise awareness of the impact of rare diseases on daily life and to advocate for better support, diagnosis, and treatment for those with rare diseases.

In the United States of America (USA) and some other parts of the world, major landmarks, such as the Empire State Building in New York are lit up in the colors of the Rare Disease Day to get people to think about rare diseases, leading them to seek and find more information about such diseases and about the Day set aside for them and thus give hope to patients of such diseases.
The Empire State Building, one of the most popular buildings in the world, will be lit up in pink, blue, green, and purple tomorrow, Friday, February 28, 2025 in celebration of Rare Disease Day 2025.
