Police arrest suspected ritualist in Akwa Ibom, recover gun
Police officers in Akwa Ibom State have arrested a suspected ritualist, Cletus Bassey, and recovered a gun from his compound in Uruan Local Government Area.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, made this known in a statement released on Friday in Uyo, the state capital. She said the arrest took place on July 29, 2025, around 7pm at the suspect’s shrine in Nung Oku Village.
According to the police, early investigations show that the 30-year-old suspect was allegedly involved in ritual activities. He was said to have been making native charms and “bullet repellers” for armed robbers.
The statement read, “On July 29, 2025, at about 6:51pm, the police, acting on credible information, arrested one Cletus Effiong Bassey at his shrine in Nung Oku Village, Uruan LGA. He is suspected of preparing charms and bulletproof charms for criminals.”
The police also searched his home and found a locally made single-barrel gun.
DSP Timfon John said that investigations are still ongoing.
