
Kano Pillars head coach, Evans Ogenyi, says his side has already shifted focus to the next game after being held to a 1-1 draw by Wikki Tourists at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Sunday.
The visitors took the lead in the 12th minute through Ahmad Limado, but Umar Sani levelled for the Sai Masu Gida just before half-time. Ogenyi admitted the team had prepared for a win but stressed that such results are part of football.
“We prepared to start winning today, but football being what it is, it ended this way. We will take each match as it comes,” Ogenyi said.
In Jos, Katsina United bounced back from their opening day defeat with a surprise 2-1 win over Plateau United. Sadiq Auwal gave the visitors the lead in the 11th minute before Uche Collins doubled it in the 60th. Hilary Albert pulled one back for Plateau United nine minutes later, but Katsina held on for all three points.
Bayelsa United climbed to the top of the table after a 2-0 victory over newly promoted Barau FC in Yenagoa. Magbisa Wisdom opened the scoring in the 58th minute, and Eyong Ofem sealed the win 20 minutes later.
Nasarawa United earned their first win of the season with a 1-0 triumph over Abia Warriors, thanks to Leonard Ugochukwu’s 10th-minute strike.
Elsewhere, Rivers United edged Kwara United 1-0 in Port Harcourt through Friday Ubong’s early goal, Enyimba beat Niger Tornadoes 1-0 in Aba, and El-Kanemi Warriors settled for a goalless draw against Ikorodu City in Lagos.
Warri Wolves continued their fine start by defeating Enugu Rangers 2-0 at home to remain unbeaten.
The final Matchday 2 fixture is between Kun Khalifat and defending champions Remo Stars in Aba.
