Saudi Women’s Premier League club Al Hilal have confirmed the signing of Super Falcons legend Asisat Oshoala from Bay FC.
The 30-year-old forward has signed a two-year contract and is expected to play a key role as the club chases trophies in the coming seasons.
Oshoala’s move is another big step for Nigerian women’s football, as she joins several compatriots already playing in Saudi Arabia. These include Ashleigh Plumptre and Francisca Ordega at Al-Ittihad, Chinonyerem Macleans at Al-Shabab, and Rita Chikwelu at Al-Riyadh.
Her departure brings an end to a short but impactful spell with Bay FC in the United States. Oshoala was a central figure in the club’s debut season in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), scoring seven goals in 38 appearances and finishing as the club’s top scorer.
Bay FC Sporting Director Matt Potter praised Oshoala for her influence on and off the pitch.
“Asisat has been an incredibly important part of Bay FC history, not only with her impact on the pitch but also through the energy, professionalism, and kindness she brought every day,” he said. “She is a world-class player and an even better person. We are grateful for everything she contributed in our first season and wish her success at Al Hilal.”
Before joining Bay FC, Oshoala spent six successful years at Barcelona, scoring 107 goals and providing 19 assists in 149 games. She helped the Spanish giants win five straight league titles and two UEFA Women’s Champions League trophies.
She has also played for Arsenal and Liverpool in England, as well as Chinese side Dalian Quanjian.
Widely regarded as one of Africa’s greatest female footballers, Oshoala’s vast experience and proven quality will be vital as Al Hilal aim to strengthen their title push and establish themselves among the top clubs on the continent.
