Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Americas condemns escalating violence, urges coordinated action
The Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Americas (NIDOA) has expressed deep concern over the rising attacks, killings, and displacements occurring across Nigeria, insisting that coordination action is needed to arrest the trend.
“We condemn, in the strongest terms, the coordinated acts of violence by armed groups that continue to claim innocent lives and destabilize communities nationwide,” a statement by the organization’s Board of Trustees (BoT) said, stressing that “reports from our members and affected families indicate an urgent humanitarian and national security crisis demanding decisive leadership and cohesive action.”
The statement, released following the declaration of Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern’ by President Donald Trump of the United States, therefore, called on the Nigerian government to: “Communicate clearly and consistently to reassure and protect affected citizens; Employ intelligence-driven, precision-based security responses; Strengthen preventive, community-based safety measures; and Ensure swift legal accountability for perpetrators and enablers.”
The organization acknowledged recent steps taken by the government of Nigeria and commended the bravery and professionalism of the country’s security personnel actively working to protect the nation, and urged the International Community to work with Nigeria as a sovereign nation whose territorial integrity and democratic processes must be respected.
“We call on the international community to refrain from any unauthorized military intervention in Nigeria. Instead, we encourage collaborative support focused on intelligence sharing, technology transfer, and capacity-building aligned with Nigeria’s leadership and national priorities,” the statement stressed.
It also stressed that “International engagement and narratives concerning Nigeria must be informed by inclusive consultation with the Nigerian government, citizens, and the diaspora community,” and pledged commitment towards “working with Nigerian institutions, civil society, and responsible international partners to advance peace, security, and the protection of civilian lives across Nigeria.”
