The United States Mission in Nigeria has strongly condemned the recent attack on Nuku and Woro villages in Kwara State, where Boko Haram militants killed dozens of residents on Tuesday.

In a statement posted on Social Media on Friday, February 6, 2026, the US described the assault as “horrific” and expressed sympathy for the communities affected.

“The United States condemns the horrific attack in Kwara State, which claimed the lives of more than 160 people, with the death toll still unconfirmed and many still missing,” the statement read. “We offer our deepest condolences to the families affected by this senseless violence.”

The US welcomed actions taken by the Nigerian government to protect local villages and provide support to victims, while also pursuing those responsible.

President Bola Tinubu had deployed an army battalion to the area to restore security. According to Bayo Onanuga, the president’s special adviser on information and strategy, the troops will lead “Operation Savannah Shield” to confront the terrorists and safeguard vulnerable communities. Tinubu described the gunmen as “heartless” and condemned the attack as “cowardly and beastly.”

Meanwhile, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has ordered increased security along border communities to prevent the violence from spreading. In a message on his social media page, Adeleke expressed sorrow over the killings and assured residents that the state would closely monitor the situation and cooperate with security agencies to ensure their safety.
