Horror in Sokoto as bandits sack villages, rustle livestock in ex-President Shagari’s birthplace, close to state capital

Terrorists, commonly referred to as bandits, Tuesday morning launched coordinated attacks on several villages in Shagari local government area of Sokoto State, Nigeria.
Shagari, which is the village of Nigeria’s second republic President, Alhaji Shehu Usman Shagari, is about 50km away, and less than an hour’s drive, from the Sokoto City centre.
Registering their grief over the development, a source from the affected area who preferred not to be named, said the experience was very devastating.
“You need to see how an entire village went into panic mode just because of some miscreants who had assorted rifles and were using same to commit all manner of crimes against the people.
“They came in large numbers and stormed our village shooting sporadically to intimidate people. They were, however, saying nobody should run, that their mission was not to kill. They spoke fluent fulfude and Hausa languages before leaving with hundreds of livestock, the source disclosed.
As at the time of filing this report, villages said to have been sacked include Gangam, Lambara, Horo Birni, Lungu,Tungabbarki, Wanke, Kaura and Bela.
The source however disclosed that hundreds of cows and other livestock were rustled by the terrorist-invaders.
Efforts to get official confirmation from the Sokoto State Police command at the time of filing this report proved unsuccessful as the commands’ image maker didn’t pick his call or respond to text messages.
