
The committee constituted by the Enugu State Government to resolve the age-long land dispute in Ibagwa Nike community has commenced its work with a plea to all stakeholders for cooperation for it to find lasting solution to the crisis.
In his remarks when the committee members visited the State Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Mr. Solomon Onah in his office, its chairman Barr. Albert Edeoga noted that the state government’s drive for development in all sectors of the state economy can only be realized in an atmosphere of peace and tranquillity in the state.
The chairman sorted the assistance of the commissioner, in the area of provision of all necessary documents on the lands in the areas of dispute.
He enumerated the areas of dispute as Owelle-Oshegu, Aguokpa and Royal Estate. Other areas involved are New City, Trans-Iyokor and Freedom City.
The Chairman also requested the commissioner to open the corridor separating the City Layout and Gate-way Layout to enhance clear demarcation of the two layouts.
The committee later visited the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Abubakar Adamu in his office where Barr. Edeoga commended the Police Force, Enugu State Command, in its efforts towards maintaining peace in Ibagwa community since the beginning of the land dispute in the area.
He informed the police boss in the state of the constitution of his committee and the members readiness to end the land dispute, requesting the Police Force to assist the committee, especially in the area of provision of security in the area.
Barr. Edeoga regretted that the resources embedded in the land in dispute cannot be harnessed in the midst of crisis, soliciting the assistance of the police in provision of security in the area.
He said that the committee is expected to gather data that would help proffer solution in the crisis in the community.
The committee thereafter, visited the Garrison Commander, 82 Division Nigerian Army, Col Greg Omaroghe, where Barr. Edeoga also requested for the assistance of the Nigerian Army, Enugu State in the provision of security at Ibagwa community.
Furthermore, the committee visited the traditional ruler of Ibagwa community, Igwe Emmanuel Ugwu who expressed hope that the committee would find lasting solution to the crisis considering their track records and pedigree.
He recalled that he had earlier visited the state governor with a request to the state government to take over and manage the land in dispute which is over seven layouts as a lasting solution to the crisis in the community.
He enjoined the committee to do their assignment without fear or favour. He went further to present some documents to the committee to enhance their work.
