The Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has arrested 9 males and 5 females in Bayelsa state for trafficking in hard drugs.
The command said the 14 suspects were arrested in the month of January, 2016 for different drug related offenses.
Spokesman of the Command, Superintendent Ikenna Osakwe, Principal Staff Officer Public Relations said, a total of 7.1499 Kg of different drugs were seized from the arrested persons.
Osakwe said the suspects were arrested at different locations within the state capital as well as surrounding communities.
The command also said its operatives seized 4.9 grammes of cocaine along the East-West road while being ferried to Port-Harcourt in a branded commercial bus.
He said the illicit drugs was deceptively concealed inside a packet of a sealed pharmaceutical product, saying that the actors in this offence have been arrested and the case under investigation.
The command advised Commercial transport companies and drivers to verify the contents of consignments given to them for delivery as it would go a long way to avoid the arrest and prosecution of their staff, corporate entities and even forfeiture of their vehicles.
NDLEA insisted that no illegal drug pedlars and dealers will be tolerated in the state. No matter the guile or guise they may employ, they will surely be arrested and brought under the heavy hand of the law, the spokesman said.
He advised parents, guardians and well meaning residents of the state to be vigilant and report illegal drug activities to the Command for appropriate action.
The Command also appealed to residents of the state to partner with the Agency to prosecute the war against illicit drugs which, he stressed, can only be achieved through collective efforts.
