Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has joined his counterparts in the country to charge the people of the state to eschew tendencies that seek to divide them and, be united in love to advance the development of the state.
The Governor gave the charge Sunday in Uyo, the state capital during his state-wide Easter broadcast to the people of the state.
He enjoined them to be united in love with the desire to move the state forward, as government alone cannot be the only source of growth and sustenance.
In line with the victory over death, resurrection and the immortality of those who live Christ-like life of love, good neighbourliness, peace and malice towards none which Easter represents, Governor Udom noted, “We can all rise in a critical mass and move ourselves to that peak of self-fulfillment.
“I want to use this opportunity to enjoin our people to show love to one another, to eschew tendencies that seek to divide us, to celebrate the goodness that is in us all, and to disavow and ignore the antics of those who may wish to create a wedge between brothers and sisters…
“Let us be united in the desire to move our dear state forward and to start a new conversation, where the narrative would be that, government alone cannot be the only source of growth and sustenance but that, in line with the ‘dakkada spirit’, and with the enabling environment that my administration is determined to create, we can all rise in a critical mass and move ourselves to that tipping point of self-fulfillment”.
The state’s Chief Executive, who urged the people to allow the spirit of the season shape and define their engagements with one another however, highlighted his administration’s programmes towards improving the well-being of the people to include; improvement of electricity across the state and payment of workers salaries, while also expediting action to eliminate the ghost workers challenges through biometric verification process.
Others include industrialization programme, free/compulsory education for children in public primary and secondary schools, free healthcare for babies within five years, diversification of the economy through Cocoa Maintenance Scheme (CMS) and, improvement on road infrastructure to open up the state for economic development.
