Woman Police Corporal beats commercial bus driver to death over N500

There was pandemonium Monday at Igando area of Lagos following the beating to death of a middle aged commercial bus driver by a woman Corporal over alleged refusal to part with N500 bribe.
The incident which occurred in front of Igando police station occurred even as the Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, was in Lagos, for the two day working visit by President Muhammadu Buhari, represented by Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.
It was gathered that the female police Corporal whose identity is still sketchy allegedly beat up and killed the commercial bus driver, identified as Muyiwa Ijaduola, on Sunday night while controlling traffic at the
Igando bus stop located about 20 meters away from the station.
The woman Corporal attached to the Igando Police Division was said to have attempted to compel the driver to part with the usual money for the Police but he refused which resulted to the beating that led to the death of the driver.
An impeccable police source said the Corporal allegedly dragged the driver down from the bus and used her baton to beat him to a pulp in the full glare of her colleagues.
Our source who pleaded anonymity said while the Corporal was beating the driver, the victim attempted to protect his head with his hands but unfortunately he slipped, hitting his head on the tarred ground.
However, another eyewitness who claimed to be closer to the scene of the incident said the police woman stopped the deceased in front of NNPC bus stop demanding N500 as part of her settlement.
The source who also pleaded anonymity said, the driver explained that he was just resuming work for the day and didn’t have enough money on him but the woman police insisted that he must give the money as she was about to close for the day.
He said the Corporal began to hit the driver with her baton and forced him down from the bus.
“It was in the process that he slipped and died. Immediately the Corporal noticed that he had stopped breathing, she and her colleagues ran away.
However, following the death of the driver, some of his colleagues, and their conductors as well as sympathisers took to the street to protest the gruesome murder causing a terrible traffic jam that grounded the area for hours.
Our reporter who visited the station same Monday afternoon gathered that the corpse has since been deposited in the mortuary.
We further gathered that police has invited the family members to the station for a meeting with the Divisional Police Officer.
Meanwhile the death sparked off pandemonium by the rampaging mob .
It was gathered that it took the combined efforts of soldiers of the Nigerian Army to restore peace in the area and ease the traffic jam.
Attempts to verify the next line of action from the state Command proved abortive as the text message sent to the acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Chukwuma Ozoani, was not replied till press time.
