
Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Agency has disclosed that one person has died and two suspected Lassa Fever cases have been reported in the State.
The chairman of the Agency, Pharmacist Ibrahim Gamawa confirmed it to newsmen Saturday in a press briefing at the Emergency Operation Center Bauchi ,saying that the victim from Dul ward in Tafawa Balewa Local Government who died from the fever died on his way to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH).
The other two suspected cases, he said were from Alkaleri Local Government and Mararraba Liman Katagum in Bauchi Local Government area of the state.
According to him, the state Ministry of Health is collaborating with the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) to handle the Lassa fever cases as it has been done in the past, adding that the state government and the Federal Ministry of Health have been constantly liaising to monitor the situation since the resurgence of Lassa Fever in recent times.
He said that health workers in the state, especially in the rural areas have been trained on how to be vigilant to detect the early symptoms of the fever and a sensitization campaign in the media and other channels is being carried out to sensitize people on the disease and how to avoid it.
The state government, he added has provided preventive drugs that will be given to anyone found with the case of the disease and no one has been quarantined in the state as at the moment.
He appealed to the state government to buy more personal protective equipment (PPE), saying that the state has only six PPE in the state.
Gamawa then advised the people of the state to cultivate good personal hygiene and that they should always cover their food items properly. Bauchi is among five states said to have recorded new cases of the Fever in recent months.
