The Yariman Gombe, Alhaji Abdulkadir Abubakar, has called on mothers to ensure adequate spacing of their children so as to give the children better attention and offer good healthy growth.

The Yarima was speaking at a town hall meeting in Gombe with policy makers, Traditional and Religious leaders, women and adolescent groups and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), organized by Save the Children International, where he advised for no less than two years child spacing period for all mothers.

Represented by Alhaji Yahya Hammari, the Yarima stated that the call became necessary in view of the attendant socio-economic and health challenges being faced by most parents in the country.

He commended ‘Save the Children International’ for the initiative towards sensitizing women on child spacing and called on Gombe women present at the town hall meeting not to hesitate in taking the advocacy message to other women in the State so that positive results would be achieved.

Earlier, the Field Manager of Save the Children in Gombe State, Altine Lewi, said the town hall meeting and training by SCI was intended to sensitize women in the State in order to provide a better and healthier life for children in the State.

According to her, Save the children International can never succeed in its programmes in the State without the support of women at all levels of the society.
