
The Nigerian Breweries Plc has announced the appointment of former Managing Director of Heineken Ethiopia, Mr. Johan Antonie Doyer as the Company’s new Managing Director/CEO, to take over from the exiting CEO.
Doyer takes over from the outgoing CEO, Nigerian Breweries, Mr. Nicolaas Vervelde, having been appointed as the new Managing Director of Heineken Asia Pacific Region.
A statement signed by Mr. Kufre Ekanem, Corporate Affairs Adviser, Nigerian Breweries Plc revealed that, the newly appointed NB’s CEO, retired from Heineken in July 2015 as the Managing Director of Heineken Ethiopia.
Mr. Doyer joined Heineken Netherlands in 1978 as Product Manager and subsequently rose through the ranks and held progressively senior Marketing management positions in different regions.
He rose to become the General Manager in Vietnam followed by La Reunion, Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Chile and the Sedibeng Brewery in South Africa.
While in Ethiopia, the release said that Doyer was responsible for building the new company, integrating two acquired breweries, building a new brewery, launching new brands and overseeing the tripling of that company’s volume. He set the stage for the growth HEINEKEN Ethiopia has recorded.
Nigeria Breweries explained that Mr. Doyer’s appointment is on the heels of the resignation of Nicolaas Vervelde and takes effect on the 16th of June, 2017 on an interim basis pending the appointment of a substantive Managing Director/CEO for the Company.
Mr. Nicolaas, now Managing Director, Heineken Asia Pacific Region, will take responsibility for Singapore, Indonesia, Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, East Timor and HEINEKEN Asia Pacific Export.” And “He will resume in his new role on August 1, 2017,” the company said.
“Mr. Nicolaas was previously Managing Director of HEINEKEN Caribbean and Central America for four years. He joined HEINEKEN in 1984 as a Management Trainee and subsequently held a number of ever increasing senior management roles in the Netherlands, Rwanda, Bahamas, Ireland and Puerto Rico. He also served as Deputy Director and Director for the Africa and Middle-East region.
The NB board, expressed confidence that Mr. Doyer’s wealth of experience would propel him to higher performance as he assumes the office of CEO/MD Nigerian Breweries
