Eid-el-Kabir: Dickson charges Muslims to pray for leaders; Borno Police places restriction on vehicular movement in Maiduguri

Bayelsa State Governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson has felicitated with Muslims across the country especially in Bayelsa on the occasion of the 2017 Eid-el-Kabir‎.

Dickson in a statement issued on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Iworiso-Markson, ‎congratulated all Muslims and urged them to continue to pray for peace, progress and sustenance of the nation’s democracy. 

The governor also implored them to work hard to preserve the unity of the country and promote religious and ethnic tolerance in their everyday endeavor so as to make the country a better place.

He also called on all Muslim faithful to pray and support political leaders in the country who are dedicated to ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach their door steps.

While wishing them a happy celebration, Dickson again assured the Muslim community in Bayelsa o‎f the determination of his government to ensure they live freely and carry out their daily businesses without any form of molestation and intimidation.

Meanwhile, the Borno state police command has placed a restriction on vehicular movement Friday August 1, 2017 within Maiduguri and its environs until after Eid Prayers, in its move to ensure hitch free Sallah celebrations.

The command in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Victor Isuku said “Borno state police command wishes to reiterate and to assure the peace loving people of the state of its commitment to ensuring a crime free Sallah celebration. In pursuance of this, therefore, there will be a restriction of vehicular movement until after the Eid prayers on 01/09/2017.”

The command said the restriction, though regretted, will include the use of motor vehicle, tricycle, bicycles and animal except those on essential duties and advised all Muslim faithful to pray at the Eid ground close to their homes.

DSP Isuku also advised Muslim faithful to go to the Eid ground early for security screening to avoid the usual rush when prayers are about to commence thereby compromising the emplaced screening measures.

The statement therefore called on parents who  go to praying grounds with their children/wards  to take proper care of them, so as to avert incidents of missing children, warning that knives, and other dangerous weapons are not allow to be carried to the Eid grounds and other recreational parks such as zoo.

While wishing all Muslim faithfuls happy Sallah celebrations, the command advised the general public to report any suspicious persons, movements and objects to the nearest security outfit.
