Nigeria at 57: Celebrities launch distribution of 100 million Nigerian flags in Gombe

Gov. Ibrahim Dankwabo, Gombe State Governor
Renowned Nollywood actor and President of Ambassadors of Voice for Change, Clem Ohameze, Monday led other Nigerian celebrities in launching the distribution of 100 million Nigerian national flags in Gombe state.
The launching according to Clem was also part of the ambassador’s campaign against corruption, preach unity and peaceful coexistence as well as propagate positive change among Nigerians.
He noted that the result of a thorough research showed that about 85 per cent of Nigerians do not know or value the essence of the country’s national symbols such as the national flag which he said is one of the root causes of some of the country’s social ills such as corruption.
Addressing a press conference after the official flag-off, Mr. Ohameze said patriotism to the country and all it portends is capable of solving many of the problems confronting the nation.
He said the essence of the project was to propagate and campaign for a positive change of attitude towards the country and its symbols from all Nigerians and that the group is ready to go round all the 36 States of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
According to him, the group spent ten days in Gombe state going round all the grassroots to distribute the flags as well as sensitize Nigerians especially children in the Primary schools on the need to be patriotic citizens.
Speaking during the formal launch, Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, who was represented at the occasion by his Deputy, Honourable Charles Iliya, commended the Ambassadors for choosing Gombe State for the launch of the campaign stressing that, “In Gombe State, it is a settled matter. We believe in the unity of Nigeria and the right of every citizen to live anywhere irrespective of his faith or ethnic background.”
He said the event couldn’t have come at a better time when the illegal quit notices were being issued to law-abiding citizens residing outside their places of origin. “This is unfortunate, as it is capable of threatening the corporate existence of the nation,” the Governor stated.
Leading the crop of celebrities at the occasion were, Clem Ohameze, Rachel Oniga and many other brand Ambassadors from Nollywood and Kannywood. Also in attendance were members of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) and student union leaders.
