The Comptroller, Nigerian Customs Service, Borno and Yobe Command, Mr. Angbala Joshua Jesse, has said that the Command has surpassed its revenue target of N62 million despite that only two out of 13 economically viable borders are functional due to the Boko Haram insurgency.
The Comptroller, who disclosed this at a Press Conference held in his office on Wednesday, said even out of the two functioning economically viable border posts, only that of Geidam is fully functional, as that of Gamboru is only offering skeletal services.
“Despite the security challenges, the command made a tremendous achievement by realizing revenue of N100 million, as against the N62 million target given to us,” the Area Comptroller added.
He said the Command was able to generate over N100 million, which surpasses the N62 million targeted with N38 million, adding that they are hoping that very soon other borders will be declared safe and operational by the Nigerian Military, so that more revenue will generated.
Comptroller Joshua said the Command lost 26 men and officers as a result of Boko Haram insurgency in Borno and Yobe states, adding that they have been working closely with sister agencies. Recently, the Command received the Air Component Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, AVM IG Lubo.
He said “on 20th July 2017 two kilograms of Indian hemp (cannabis) was seized by my officers at Geidam and was thereafter handed over to the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Also 101 bags of parboiled rice of 50kg was intercepted by my officers and men along Kanama Geidam border.”
“on 25th October, 2017 two buses were intercepted along Yunusari-Geidam axis carrying 298 bags of foreign rice with the duty paid valued of N2,743,100.00”, Mr Joshua added.
