The family of the 18th Sultan of Sokoto, late Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki has pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to obey court orders which had granted bail to their son, the former National Security Adviser NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki.
Speaking on behalf of the Dasuki family at a press conference at the Press Centre Sokoto Friday, the Secretary-General of Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki Progressive Association Sokoto, Comrade Kabir Auwal said Sambo Dasuki’s release was overdue.
“Today (29/12/2017) is two years since the former National Security Adviser Sambo Dasuki was arrested and re-arrested in December 2015 after securing his bail condition but ignored by the Federal Government.”, Auwal stated.
According to the Association, since Dasuki’s incarceration, he has been arraigned before four Federal courts which granted him bail, while the ECOWAS court, a sub-regional court not only ordered that the Federal Government release him immediately but also ordered his compensation to the tune of N15 million.
The Association said members of the Dasuki family had deliberately remained silent on Dasuki’s ordeals and persecution, hoping that in a democratic government, rules of law would be adhered to, lamenting, however, that for over two years, he has still been unlawfully detained.
Auwal reiterated that the former NSA to former President Goodluck Jonathan’s offences were bailable adding that inspite of Dasuki’s contribution in taming insecurity in the country, he has been the most maligned public officer yet he remains the only public officer that has remained in detention in the last two years.
He therefore called on the Federal Government to release him on bail in compliance with the rulings of the competent courts while it continues with the cases in open court rather than secret or media trials.
