The Speaker, who used the occasion to empower 520 less privileged persons with N100, 000 each to start up businesses, reeled out many other people-oriented projects initiated by him, not only in his constituency, but the entire State. 70 per cent of those that benefited from the empowerment were women.
Speaking at the occasion held at his native town, Bogoro, after encomiums by eminent sons and daughters within and outside the constituency were showered on him over his people oriented policies and programmes for the entire country from the legislative angle and how he had impacted positively on the lives of the ordinary people, Dogara challenged his fellow politicians that “politics should be to serve the people”.
According to him, “during the political campaigns, I had told people, especially our traditional rulers that “I am not interested in position but to serve the people. Anyone who would deliver should be voted and to God be the glory, our constituency is realizing that dream through numerous projects I cannot enumerate”.
Yakubu Dogara who represents Tafawa Balewa/Bogoro/Dass Federal Constituency of Bauchi State, thanked the constituents for their patience, understanding and faith in him even when there were many capable candidates who contested with him.
Recounting the support given to him, Dogara said “even if I had lost in my own LGA, Bogoro, during the election, the votes in Dass and Tafawa Balewa LGA’s would have given me the victory. I therefore thank you for investing in me. Now we can travel to many parts of the State including this place without any pothole. The job was beyond a single Member”.
He described as one of his greatest achievements, the establishment by the Federal Government, the North-East Development Commission saying the coming into being of the Commission is the sacrifice of the people of the geo-political zone promising that as legislators, they will ensure that funds meant for the commission are well utilized judiciously.
The occasion which had a special prayer for the celebrant and his family by prominent clergies from the geo-political zone, also had in attendance the Acting Governor of Plateau State, the Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, many Federal and State Legislators, Bauchi State Chairman of the APC and many prominent sons and daughters within and outside area as well as other prominent Nigerians.
