Abduction of school girls: What Information Minister, Idris, said

Alhaji Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation

The Federal Government has condemned the abduction of 25 schoolgirls from Government Girls Secondary School, Maga, in Kebbi State, describing the incident as a heartbreaking attack on innocent children.

In a statement on Monday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was deeply saddened by the violent assault, which also led to the killing of Vice Principal Hassan Makuku and left a security guard, Ali Shehu, injured.
Idris said the President had issued clear and urgent directives to security and intelligence agencies to track down the kidnappers and ensure the safe return of the missing students. He stressed that the protection of Nigerians—especially schoolchildren—remains a core responsibility of the Tinubu administration.
According to the Minister, the government is strengthening the country’s security system by improving military, policing, and intelligence capabilities to prevent and quickly respond to such attacks. He added that Nigeria is also deepening cooperation with ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Multinational Joint Task Force to tighten border security and weaken criminal networks.
He urged Nigerians to stay calm and trust the ongoing rescue efforts, assuring the public that the Federal Government will not rest until the abducted girls are found and reunited with their families.
