Accidental discharge: Villa is safe, Presidency assures Nigerians, foreigners; As President Buhari orders strong actions to deal with violence in Southern Kaduna

The Presidency has said that the security operative whose fire arm accidentally discharged in the Presidential Villa.is not attached to the Villa but came in connection with an ongoing investigation.
In a statement reassuring Nigerians and foreigners that the Villa is safe, released by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media and Publicity) the Presidency said that according to reports received so far, the operative involved in the incident “came on invitation as a witness in an ongoing investigation and was required, as is the rule, to surrender his weapon at the gates before entry
“Investigation revealed that the operative conducted the normal safety precaution as professionally required when the pistol accidentally fired.
“The lady by his side, a caterer was hit by a pellet of the bullet. Both of them were attended to at the clinic and discharged,” the statement concluded.
Meanwhile, the Presidency has revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari has, in the past week, given instructions for decisive measures aimed at bringing an end to the recurring acts of violence and destruction in the Southern part of Kaduna State.
Another statement by Shehu said that “on the directive of President Buhari, the Inspector-General of Police was in the region on Saturday and Sunday to assess the situation at first hand. In addition to the conventional policemen deployed in the area, a squadron of mobile policemen has now been stationed there.
“The Nigerian army is also in the process of setting up two battalions in Southern Kaduna while the military continues to carry out air surveillance across flash points of the area.
President Buhari, the statement said continued, “has equally directed the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to carry out a joint assessment of the situation with the sister agency in Kaduna, SEMA, to determine the level of response required for urgent aid to the victims of the violence.
“These measures should soon ensure the return of normalcy to the region, while the Kaduna State government continues its peace building efforts.
The President, Shehu said, “commended efforts of the State government and the security agencies in the steps taken so far to curtail the violence,” and has, once again, sent condolences to the people of Southern Kaduna, who have lost loved ones in the recent violence.
