African Consuls General in New York for Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial event in New Jersey, Tuesday


Members of the African Consuls General Group of New York, United States of America (USA) will be Guest Speakers at a program being put together to celebrate the iconic civil rights leader,Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in Newark, New Jersey on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.

The Memorial event, being presented by the Dr. Akil Khalfani-led Africana Institute of Essex County College (ECC), Newark, New Jersey, will have the New York, USA-based Consuls General of South Africa, Nigeria, Senegal, Algeria, Angola, Liberia, Morocco and the Deputy Counsel General of Egypt, in attendance.

They are Ambassadors Motumisi Tawana (Dr.), Lot Egopija, El Hadji Amadou Ndao, Brahim Chennouf, Augusta Mangueira, Nathaniel Wreh Nagbe,I, Abdelkader Jamoussi and Mr. Mohammad Elhalawani respectively.

Billed to start off at 10:00am and end at 12:00pm, the historic meeting, holding at the Smith Hall of the College, will also feature Dr. Martin Luther King,Jr. being portrayed by 11 year old Ikenna Obikulu as well as a performance by the ECC Choir.

There will equally be an exhibition, by the Africana Institute of ECC and the African Consuls General Group, titled “African Glory,” featuring a collection of extraordinary Art and Artifacts from various African Countries and the Diaspora.
