Mr Anthony Ogbizi, the Commissioner of Police in Abia, has said that the command would apprehend any politician, who disrupts the peaceful conduct of the Local Government congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) slated for Saturday.

Ogbizi gave this warning in Umuahia on Friday while briefing newsmen on the command’s readiness for the exercise.

He said that the command had taken measures to ensure a hitch-free exercise in the 17 Local Government Areas of the state.

“The police will deal with any person, who foments trouble during the process, irrespective of the person’s status.

“Consequently, political actors in the state, irrespective of their social and political status, who are not accredited candidates for the congress, are advised to stay away from the venues of the exercise.”

“They are also warned against procuring, sponsoring, aiding or financing thugs to disrupt voting processes; cause a breach of the peace or engage in any act prejudicial to the security of lives and property”.

The commissioner said the command would invoke the appropriate provisions of the law, including the application of the rules of engagement, where necessary, to deal decisively with anyone involved in violent acts.

He said that the warning became necessary to avert the “series of ugly incidents that trailed the conduct of the ongoing APC congress in some states of the federation”.

Ogbizi said the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, was to create a safe and secure environment and a level playing field for all political actors in the country to pursue their aspirations.
