Osun Governor Adeleke resigns from PDP over national leadership crisis

The Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has officially withdrawn his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying he can no longer remain in the party due to ongoing problems in its national leadership.

Adeleke announced his decision on Monday night through a statement posted on his Instagram page. He explained that he had already submitted his resignation letter on 4 November 2025 to party officials in his ward at Sagba Abogunde, Ede North Local Government.

In his statement, he said he was stepping aside because of the “continuous crisis” affecting the party’s national structure. He also expressed appreciation to PDP members and supporters for the roles they played in his political journey, from his time as a Senator to his current position as Governor.

Reports from the Osun State chapter of the PDP had earlier suggested that Adeleke was unsure about seeking the party’s ticket for the 2026 governorship election unless the internal disagreements were settled. The party leadership had hoped a solution, officially recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), would convince him to stay.

It had also been hinted that Adeleke might reconsider his position if the disputes troubling the party were resolved before INEC’s deadline for the Osun governorship race.

With his resignation now confirmed, Adeleke’s political direction ahead of the 2026 election remains uncertain but there are feelers he will join the All Progressives Congress (APC).
