The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has fixed January 9, 2016, as date for the conclusion of the governorship election in Bayelsa State.
INEC had declared the governorship election which held on December 5 and 6 as inconclusive following reported violence which marred polling in the Southern Ijaw local government area of the state.
Spokesperson for INEC, Nick Dazang, who confirmed the new date for election the council said the commission had already issued a public notice to that effect.
The electoral body had already announced the results of seven out of the eight local governments with the incumbent governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Seriake Dickson, ahead of his main challenger, former governor Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by over 70, 000 votes.
Dazang said all political parties with candidates in the election have already been notified.
