Troops rescue 605 persons from Boko Haram captivity

The theater Commander Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Lucky Irabor has said that his troops in the last one week, have rescued 605 people from the captivity of Boko Haram insurgents from Sambiza forest and other parts of the theater through Operation Rescue Finale.

Briefing newsmen at the headquarters of Operation Lafiya Dole, General Irabor said “ in continuation of our operation from the time we met on 7th December 2016 to date 14th December 2016 our troops have rescued 605 person through Operation Rescue Finale.”

He said those rescued include 180 adult females, 159 children female, while the rest are male children, adding that his troops are determined to rescue all those in captivity of the Boko Haram insurgents.

The theater commander said that in continuation of the operation, his troops have killed several Boko Haram terrorists and many arms and ammunitions recovered in various locations within the theater of operation, while some fleeing Boko Haram insurgents were also arrested in various places.

General Irabor called on the general public to be wary of fleeing Boko Haram terrorists who were infiltrating towns and cities seeking menial jobs, looking for a way to later cause havoc on innocent Nigerians.

He said they also got some intelligence reports that the leaders of Boko Haram terrorists were threatening their members not to flee, as anybody found fleeing will be executed and therefore called on any Boko Haram terrorists that are willing to surrender to do so through the safe heaven corridor, as according to him they will be treated humanely.

He said government is ready to de-radicalize them, train them and re-integrate them back to the society, so that they will live their normal lives.
