Sen. Ibrahim Gobir (APC-Sokoto) on Saturday described the recent stakeholders meeting on security in Sokoto State as timely and highly commendable.

Gobir, Chairman, Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, who represents Sokoto East Senatorial District in the red chamber, expressed his feelings while briefing newsmen in Sokoto.

According to him, the issue of security has no partisanship and should always be a collective responsibility of all citizens.

“I have sent my apology for not being physically present at the meeting, but to tell you the truth it was a very timely organisation.

“I commend the movers of such an important gathering. Yes security issues are always by-partisan because bandits don’t know who is from APC or PDP. When they attack, they attack every body.

“So it is a welcome development and how I wish such kind of meetings will be convened every month for us to come together and discuss thoroughly.

“I believe if we can continue in this way, we will be able to find a lasting solution that can bring back our historic peace and love for one another in Sokoto state,” he said.

On his effort towards ensuring a lasting peace in the eastern zone of the state, the lawmaker said he would continue to engage all security actors in the country in that regard.

“We have since reached a peak level with the security agencies and I can assure you that soon the issues of insecurity in the eastern zone of Sokoto state will be history,” he declared.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Sokoto State Government had on Aug. 18, convened a stakeholders security meeting to address the challenge.

At the event, Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, inaugurated an advisory committee headed by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, to proffer lasting solution to rising banditry in the state.
