Tinubu arrives Ankara on state visit to Türkiye

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived Ankara, the capital of Türkiye, on a state visit aimed at strengthening ties and exploring new areas of cooperation between the two countries.

The President’s plane touched down at Ankara Esenboğa Airport at 9:03 pm local time on Monday, January 26, 2026. He was received by a Turkish government delegation led by Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin.

Nigerian officials, including the Chargé d’Affaires at the Nigerian Embassy in Türkiye, Ambassador Zayyad Abdulsalam, were also present to welcome him.

At his hotel, President Tinubu was received by several members of his cabinet, including Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN; Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; Minister of Solid Minerals, Dele Alake; and Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd).

Other officials present included the Ministers of Interior, Women Affairs, and Innovation, Science and Technology, as well as senior aides and intelligence officials.

During the visit, President Tinubu is scheduled to meet with his Turkish counterpart, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and engage in discussions aimed at expanding the partnership between Nigeria and Türkiye.

The visit will also include the signing of Memoranda of Understanding and other key engagements to further bilateral cooperation.

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the schedule of the visit.
