CBN uncovers, aborts fraud; Suspends staff

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has uncovered and aborted “a highly sophisticated plot” by some criminally minded elements to defraud it.

According to a statement by Mr. Isaac Okorafor, Acting Director, Corporate Communications, although preliminary investigations have so far not revealed any accomplices within the CBN, the management of the apex bank decided to send all key personnel involved in the transaction on suspension to ensure “full and unfettered” investigation of the incident.

While assuring the general public that the security of the CBN remains intact, the statement stressed that the plot has been reported to relevant authorities.
