US-based Ikenna Carl Korieocha has performed the Iwa Akwa (tying of cloth) or coming of age ceremony that young men in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, Nigeria periodically take part in.
The ceremony, performed in different autonomous communities of Obowo, involves young men within a particular age range and takes place during the Christmas and New Year season.
It was joy unlimited for the Korieocha family and many other families, whose sons ‘came of age,’ tied the colorful ceremonial clothes and danced out to the market place to the admiration of family members, friends and other well wishers.
