Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has praised the performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and the turnout of voters in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) area council elections.

Amupitan spoke on Saturday in Abuja after monitoring voting in some polling units within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

He said the accreditation process was fast and helped reduce waiting time for voters.

“You can see for yourself that the election is orderly and very efficient. The election is peaceful, and those are the indices of a good election,” he said.
“So far, the efficiency of the BVAS is high, and I am very satisfied because the BVAS are working effectively and efficiently.”

The INEC boss said the technology made the process quick and smooth.

“From what I have seen and heard from the presiding officers, it takes less than five seconds to even accredit a voter,” Amupitan said.
“So far, I can say that the election is well organised. The election is peaceful from the calm atmosphere you have seen.”

He also praised the turnout of voters, saying it showed growing awareness among citizens.

“You can see a lot of people here, and they are conducting themselves well,” he said.

Amupitan commended the conduct of security personnel and said the election environment was calm.

“They are also conducting their affairs in an orderly manner. So, we hope that at the close of the poll, we will have a very successful election,” he added.

He acknowledged minor challenges in some areas, including delays in the arrival of materials and officials, but said INEC was handling the situation.

“The voices of Nigerians will be heard this time around. The BVAS, as far as I am concerned, is working very well,” he said.

Amupitan also assured Nigerians that INEC would continue to improve its processes ahead of the 2027 general elections and ensure that every vote counts.
