Edo 2016: 1,650 security personnel for APC primaries; No bodyguards for VIPs – Police Commissioner

All is now set for the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primaries scheduled for Saturday, 18/6/16 as no fewer than 1, 650 security personnel are expected to provide security for delegates, aspirants and all around the venue of the APC Governorship primaries.
Out of the number, the police is to provide 1, 200 of its personnel while the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), will have 450 of its officers on ground for the primaries.
Mr. Chris Ezike, Edo Commissioner of Police who briefed the press in Benin on Friday, said of the figure from the police, 200 mobile police men will be deployed from neighbouring states.
While warning political thugs to stay clear of the venue, Ezike noted that security details attached to aspirants or any other public figure will not be allowed into the venue.
“We are ready for anybody whose aim is to cause problem and I must say clearly that we are ready, security wise, for the primaries,” he said.
On his part, Mr. Walter Akubuiroh, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, said from the 450 personnel to be deployed by the para-military security outfit, 100 will be armed.
According to him, “We are going to strategically position our men around the venue while some others will provide security for the delegates as well as the aspirants.
“We will also be working to ensure free vehicular movement within the precinct of the venue where the primaries will take place.”
The APC primaries which holds on Saturday, will see 2, 873 delegates voting to nominate the party’s governorship candidate for the September 10 governorship election.
