Deep Sea Port will be a game changer – Akwa Ibom Information Commissioner

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Elder Aniekan Umanah, has described the ongoing Deep Sea Port project in the state as a “game changer” that will dramatically transform the economy of Akwa Ibom State, Southern Nigeria, and the Gulf of Guinea region once completed.
Speaking on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Comfort 95.1 FM Uyo during Mighty George’s 100-hour Guinness World Record attempt for the longest talk show on radio, Hon. Umanah highlighted the state’s commitment to the project and called for federal support.
“Developing a Deep Sea Port is a serious business. That is why His Excellency the Governor has appealed to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to intervene and assist in developing this Deep Sea Port that will be a game changer for the Gulf of Guinea, this nation, and for the economy of the entire Southern Nigeria,” Hon. Umanah said.
He praised Governor, Pastor Umo Eno’s leadership and vision, citing the Governor’s efforts to attract attention and investment for the port, which promises to open up new economic opportunities for the state and the country at large.
Hon. Umanah also spoke about the success of the state-owned airline, Ibom Air, which continues to receive both local and international acclaim for its excellent service delivery.
“The idea of Ibom Air was well thought out. Ibom Air is a beauty to behold. It’s a treasure for Akwa Ibom and has put the Akwa Ibom map high there in the sky, globally, so that everyone is seeing it,” he said.
On political matters, the Information Commissioner explained the reason behind Governor Umo Eno’s ongoing Federal Constituency briefing and empowerment tours. According to him, it is a fulfillment of the Governor’s campaign promises, designed to inform citizens about government projects, gather feedback, and empower the people through compassionate support packages.
Meanwhile, ace broadcaster Mighty George continues his 100-hour marathon broadcast at Comfort 95.1 FM Uyo, aiming to set a new Guinness World Record for the longest talk show on radio.
