RCCG’s Pastor Adeboye leads Christians to cry to God for mercy for Nigeria; Releases program for 2022 Congress – Double Portion

Pastor Enoch Adeboye

General Overseer (G.O) of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, other Ministers and Christians from across the world, Friday, December 2, 2022, raised their voices in passionate pleas to God to have mercy on individuals, families, the Church and the nation Nigeria.

The occasion was the grand finale of the seven-days fasting and prayer programme that he declared, by the leading of the Holy Spirit, using  as anchor Scripture, 2 Chronicles 7:13-14 which says: (13) “If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; (14) If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”

The programme, which took place at the Redemption City on the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, witnessed a little over three hours of high praises and intensive prayers of thanksgiving, forgiveness and mercy. Starting with one full hour of thanksgiving and praises for all that God has done for the congregation, the event went on to prayers for mercy for the sins of the individual, for the sins of the Church and for the sins of the nation.

Prayers of confession of the sins of the Church included everyone as the sinners, the leaders and the led, and the prayers were for, among others, not shining as the light in a nation which is still in darkness; for failure to be the salt of the earth and for failure to pray for leaders, both in government and in the Church. Cries for forgiveness for the Church filled the expansive Auditorium from the huge crowd that participated in the programme.

The sins of the nation over which cries for mercy and forgiveness were raised to high heavens include corruption of mindboggling dimensions, budget padding, looting of the nation’s treasuries, shedding of innocent blood, kidnapping, banditry and crushing poverty.

Pastor Adeboye, who noted that the programme would mark a turning point for the best for individuals, the Church and the nation, stressed that the suffering in the country has become too unbearable and that God must hear from heaven and heal the land. Pointing out that “we are all guilty as charged” – individuals, young and old, the Church as well as the nation, he cried out to God to look down from heaven and please have mercy on us all.

He said the suffering in the land has become too unbearable, that people are now afraid to go out at night or during the day, that those who are supposed to take care of the people either do not have time for them or have become overwhelmed by the problems; that youth, running away from the country to foreign lands are discovering that there are also serious challenges where they are running to but are too ashamed to return to the troubles at home.

He prayed that as everything seems to have failed, the people have no one else to turn to but to the God who never fails, the helper of the helpless; and beseeched God to, because of the few that He loves specially, forgive the sins of individuals, of the Church and of the nation, and have mercy on all and turn the suffocating darkness to light and the overwhelming sorrow to joy, so that the nation can enter the new year singing ‘victory at last.’

He prayed that God should command light into the country, put an end to the pervasive sufferings, and because those who are weeping are many, that God should look down from heaven and for the sake of the name of Jesus, heal homes, heal Churches, heal the nation and not let people enter the new year with the current level of suffering.

Concluding, he led the congregation to sing “Arise O Lord, let Your enemies be scattered,” and prayed fervently that God must arise and that all the enemies of God, all the enemies of God’s people, all the enemies of the Church and all the enemies of the nation will be scattered.

Pastor Adeboye also revealed that the weeklong Annual Congress of the Church that starts on Monday, December 5, 2022, will be like what has never been witnessed before, starting with a Praise Night on Monday night for restitution for all the years of ingratitude to God. Tuesday night would witness ministration on Oil of Gladness while Wednesday will be Healing Virtues, an anointing Service for all who are sick.

The  programme on Thursday will be From Curses to Blessings and will witness anointing to cancel every curse in families while the grand finale of the 2022 Annual Congress will be the Holy Ghost Service with the theme DOUBLE PORTION.
