Five abducted Redeemed Christian Church of God Pastors released

The Ogun Police Command has confirmed the release of five Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, pastors kidnapped by suspected Fulani herdsmen at J3/J4 Area, Ogbere, on the Benin-Sagamu expressway on Thursday night.

Though details of their release are still sketchy, the Police said that all the five were released on Saturday, the only female among them being the first to have been freed.

The abducted pastors, according to the police, are Chidioze Eluwa (male), Chiemela Iroha (male), Okoro Ohowukwe (male), Ndubuizi Owuabueze (male) and Ibeleji Chidinma (female).

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the General Overseer, G.O of the RCCG, had on Friday morning, while speaking at the Church’s annual Ministers’ Conference holding at the Redemption Camp in Ogun, disclosed that the five, who were on their way to the Conference had been kidnapped, and called for prayers for their release from captivity.

The Police spokesman in Ogun, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Friday confirmed to journalists that the victims were on their way from the eastern part of the country when the commercial bus conveying them was intercepted by the gunmen who took the five into the forest leaving behind the driver, a sick passenger and his wife.

Oyeyemi had said the state’s Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, had personally led the police rescue team to the scene of the abduction and that “through surveillance we have got to know their location but we don’t want to attack them so that we won’t put the victims’ lives in danger,” stressing that “By the grace of God, we will rescue the victims.”

It is expected that there will be songs of victory for the release of the five ministers as well as testimonies of the never failing faithfulness of God as the Ministers’ Conference of the Church ends this weekend and the 67th Annual Convention begins on Monday, August 5, 2019.
