Prof. Onyema of Federal University Otuoke delivers Inaugural Lecture, Thursday, on WRITING NEXT DOOR TO (S)HELL:….

Professor Christopher Chinemerem Onyema of the Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa State, Nigeria, will, on Thursday, September 2, 2021, deliver the 6th Inaugural Lecture of the University.
The invitation to the intellectual feast, by the Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Teddy Charles Addias, on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate & entire University community, gave the topic of the Lecture as WRITING NEXT DOOR TO (S)HELL: OIL AND ENVIRONMENTAL RIGHTS DISCOURSE IN THE NIGER DELTA.
The Lecture will hold at the University Auditorium, East Campus, from 11:00 AM, and going by its topic, which has to do with the controversial international oil company (IOC), Shell, and the impact of its oil exploration and production activities in the Niger Delta region, the Lecture promises to tell some home truths that would be of interest to both local and foreign audiences.
Professor Chris Onyema, the author of Crude Waves of the Niger Delta (a book of poems), is a Professor of English Discourse and Communication Stylistics at the Federal University Otuoke.
He is an expert in ecocriticism, one of the fairly recent fields in literary criticism that, as its name indicates, is concerned with the environment.
All the attention of the academic community in general, but especially of the literary community, the oil and gas industry and, of course, the oil and gas host communities, is now, understandably, focused on Otuoke and what Professor Onyema has to say.
