The U.S. President, Donald Trump says he ended “seven unendable wars” in seven months.

Trump touted his success in ending the intractable conflicts while delivering his statement to the 80th session of the UN General Assembly on Tuesday at UN headquarters in New York.

He also lashed out at the UN, saying the world body offered him little help, asking rhetorically: “What is the purpose of the United Nations?” He said the 80 year-old UN seems to write very strongly worded letters but stressed that “empty words don’t solve war.”

The controversial US President said further that while some people have suggested that he should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in ending the wars, he believes that the real prize are the millions of lives that are being saved as a result of the cessation of the wars.

On Iran, which he called the “world’s number one sponsor of terror”, he said his administration “completely demolished” the country’s enrichment capabilities and also brokered an end to its 12-day war with Israel.

He said he thought the Russia-Ukraine war “would be the easiest” to end because of his relationship with Russian Federation President Vladimir Putin, but that instead, the three and half year old conflict has dragged on for longer than he thought, with “five to seven thousand young people” being killed every week on both sides.

He also accused North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) countries of hypocrisy:   “They are buying oil and gas from Russia when they are fighting Russia,” he said.

His proposed solution was tariffs: “If Russia does not end the war, the United States would impose very stiff tariffs which would end the war very quickly, but the Europeans have to adopt them (tariffs) as well”.

He urged immediate action on Gaza, the release of all the hostages, and warned that unilateral recognition of a Palestinian State would amount to “a reward to Hamas for its horrible atrocities”.

He criticized the UN on multiple fronts while addressing the world leaders from more than 100 countries that gathered for the 80th session of the United Nations.

For instance, he said that many years ago, he had bid to rebuild the United Nations for $500 million, but that the leaders of the institution at the time took another option which produced a much more inferior complex at a higher cost.

“They spent between two and four billion dollars and did not even get the marble floors I promised them,” he stressed, pointing out other malfunctioning facilities at the UN headquarters.

On migration, he said that in 2024, the UN spent “$372 million in cash to support 624,000 migrants to journey into the United States, to infiltrate our Southern border,” insisting that “The UN is supposed to stop invasion not promote them.”

Trump also attacked the global climate policy and renewable energy.  “Windmills are pathetic,” he said, calling the carbon footprint “a hoax”.

He warned the leaders, especially of European countries, that “If you don’t get away from the green energy scam your country is going to fail.”

Insisting that resort to green energy and unchecked migration was destroying Europe, he lashed out at China, which he said was producing wind turbines and exporting them but is still relying on coal and other fossil fuels.

He noted that: “China now produces more CO2 than all the other developed nations in the world.”
