Former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has called for unity and responsible leadership in Nigeria.

Obi made the call on Saturday, February 14, 2026, during a meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Obidient Movement in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

In his address, he urged supporters and political leaders to work together for the progress of the country.

He said, “I emphasised the importance of unity, calling on all of us to work together as one family toward the common goal of building a new Nigeria.”

Obi also stressed that Nigeria needs leaders who are caring, skilled, and focused on development.

According to him, “Nigeria must be led by leaders who are competent, compassionate, and committed — leaders who prioritise development, security, education, healthcare, poverty reduction, and creating opportunities for our youth.”

He added that the country’s politics should move from consumption to production, using national resources to create wealth and prosperity.

The former governor also spoke on character and accountability in leadership.

He said, “Those who aspire to be called ‘honourable’ must truly act honourably; those who seek to be addressed as ‘His Excellency’ must embody excellence; and those who aim to be ‘distinguished’ must live distinguished lives.”

He concluded his message with the statement, “A new Nigeria is POssible.”

The event in Uyo attracted a large crowd, with photos shared online by the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Yunusa Tanko. In the pictures, Obi was seen with leaders of the ADC.

Tanko said Obi also vowed that he would not allow a repeat of what happened during the 2023 presidential election.

The large turnout at the event has sparked reactions on social media, with many Nigerians commenting on the growing support for Obi and the ADC mobilisation drive.
