Nursing mother docked over alleged generator theft

A 20-year-old nursing mother, Ewatomi Ademola, on Friday appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun over alleged theft of a generator.

The Police prosecutor, Insp Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Jan 30, 2018 at Agriculture Area, Opa in Ile-Ife.

Abdullahi said that the accused stole a power generating set valued at N48, 000, being property of one Abass Azeez.

The prosecutor said that the case was reported at `C’ Division, Agaun Police Station on Feb. 1, 2018.

According to him, the offence contravened sections 383 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count charge of stealing.

The defence counsel, Mr Martins Awe, pleaded for the bail of the accused on a most liberal term, promising that his client would not jump bail, and that he would produce substantial sureties.

Magistrate Adejumoke Ademola-Olowolagba granted bail to the accused in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Ademola-Olowolagba added that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means, resides within the court jurisdiction and one of them must be a close relation.

She adjourned the case until Feb 23 for hearing.
