Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Mr. Peter Obi has said that society will progress faster if women are given equal opportunities in education, finance, and leadership.
Obi made the statement on Tuesday in Banjul, The Gambia, during the Network of Locally Elected Women of Africa (REFELA) National Conference, which was held under the theme “Accelerating Representation, Safeguarding, and Strengthening Women’s Rights.”
During his speech, Obi also reflected on the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD), “Give to Gain.”
The former governor of Anambra State stressed that the success of any nation depends largely on how well it invests in its people, especially women.
According to him, countries that make deliberate efforts to develop human capital usually enjoy stronger economies and more stable societies.
Obi explained that when women are given equal access to education, finance, and leadership positions, they play a major role in driving national development.
He added that for countries seeking lasting prosperity, including Nigeria, The Gambia, and other African nations, the focus must be on strong and strategic investment in human capital.
Obi noted that prioritising education, healthcare, skills development, and economic inclusion for women and young people remains the key to sustainable growth and national development.
