Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, has called on “all opposition parties to come together in the determination to confront and end bad governance.”
Mr. Obi, a former Governor of Anambra State, who made the call yesterday, Sunday, March 8, 2026, in Awka, the Anambra State capital, stressed that this is because “the forthcoming election in 2027 will not merely be a contest between political parties; it will be a defining choice between the Nigerian people and bad governance.”
He made the call at the flag-off ceremony of the membership validation and registration exercise of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) which was attended by major political stakeholders in Anambra State, including two Senators, five members of the National Assembly and six members of the State House of Assembly.
Mr. Obi said further on a post on his X (former Twitter) platform, that following the flag-off of the exercise in Awka, the dignitaries in attendance moved to his place of origin, Agulu, in the Anaocha Local Government Area of the state, where, he personally completed his membership validation “and encouraged others to follow suit.”
Recalling the December 31, 2025 gathering in Enugu, where political leaders from across Igboland met to endorse the ADC “as the most credible platform for political renewal and responsible governance,” Mr. Obi stressed that the message of Sunday’s meetings in Awka and Agulu was simple: “meaningful change begins with participation.”
The December 2025 meeting in Enugu had in attendance such political leaders as Chief Okwesilieze Nwodo, Chief Achike Udenwa, Senator Ben Ndi Obi, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, Hon. Gilbert Nnaji, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, Senators Victor Umeh and Tony Nwoye, many other members of the National and State Houses of Assembly.
