UNILAG’s Convocation Ceremonies hold March 2- 13, 2020; Communication Minister delivers Guest Lecture; Ahmed Yerima’s “The Wives” is Convocation Play.(See detailed program; other information)
The University of Lagos, Nigeria (UNILAG) has scheduled its 51st (2019) Convocation Ceremonies to hold from Monday, March 2, 2020 to Friday, March 13, 2020.
The program, which starts with a Pre-Convocation Press Conference and Launching of the UNILAG Anthem on Monday March 2, 2020, continues on Friday March 6, 2020 and Sunday March 8, 2020 with special Jumat service and Thanksgiving Service respectively.
Monday, March 9, 2020 will witness the opening of an Exhibition and commissioning of projects; the Convocation Lecture, to be delivered by Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ali Ibrahim Patani on The Role of Disruptive Technologies in Sustainable Economic Transformation, as well as the Chancellor’s reception.
Tuesday, March 10, 2020 and Wednesday, March 11, 2020 will be Convocation Days One and Two for the award of first degrees, Diplomas, Certificates and prizes to Graduating students of different faculties and Institutes as well as Alumni activities.
Convocation Day Three, Thursday, March 12, 2020 will be for the congregation for the award of Post Graduate Diplomas, Master Degrees, Ph.D degrees and Best Ph.D Award of the School of Post graduate studies, Conferment of Distinguished Professorship, Emeritus Professorship and Honorary Doctorate Degrees.
Later same day, Ahmed Yerima’s “The Wives” as directed by Saheed Bello will feature as the Convocation Play.
Friday, March 13, 2020 will be dedicated to Long Service Award and Luncheon with the Doyen, to round off the ceremonies.

(i) CONVOCATION FEE
Mandatory payment for ALL graduands for the Convocation Ceremonies is as stated below:

(ii) Purchase/Hiring of Academic Outfit
Academic outfit (Gown, Hood & Cap) shall be obtained at the following cost:

Academic outfit will be available at the College, School of Postgraduate Studies, Faculties and the Distance Learning Institute.
(iii) Return of Academic Outfit
The deadline for return of all academic outfits shall be May 12, 2020. Individuals who return the hired academic outfits shall be entitled to a refundable fee of N2,500.00 only, while those who fail to return the outfit shall be made to bear the cost for outright purchase (N15,000.00 or N20,000.00 as the case may be) before clearance is issued.
(iv) Collection of Certificates
All graduands are expected to collect their certificates within three (3) months after Convocation. Failure to collect will attract a demurrage of N50 per day.

Invitation Cards for Graduating Students
Each graduand is entitled to two (2) invitation cards. The invitation cards and a set of academic outfit (Gown, hood and cap), would be available for collection on presentation of receipt/teller for payment at the College/School/Faculty/Institute as appropriate. Convocation Brochures are to be collected at the various locations earlier mentioned. Graduands are enjoined to attend the Convocation Ceremonies at the time allotted to them.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, FAS on behalf of the entire University community congratulates all graduating students. Please be assured that certificates would be ready for collection immediately after each ceremony upon the presentation of all necessary clearance.
