Chairman, Benin Leaders of Thought (BLT) His Royal Highness, Ovbioba Edun Akenzua, the Enogie of Obazuwa has said that only the personal profile of the candidates jostling to succeed Governor Adams Oshiomhole will define the winner of next week’s governorship poll.
Speaking with newsmen in his private capacity at his home in Benin city on expectations in the forthcoming election, Enogie Akenzua, who is the younger brother of late Oba of Benin, Oba Erediauwa prayed the ancestors to give the state a governor that has the interest of Edo people at heart.
“I think it’s going to be an issue of personality because to me there is hardly any difference between party A and party B. I have not seen an clear cut difference in ideology between the parties so I think that the elections will be purely based on personality.
He equally berated critics of Oshiomhole’s government saying the Governor’s performance in the last seven and half years surpassed expectations.
He said “It’s true that most people have been criticising Comrade Oshiomhole but I don’t see why. If it is possible for me to get this man retained in Edo for a third term, I will do so because he has impressed me,he has impressed Edo people. What he has done here even the blind man can see that Oshiomhole has done something.
“Some of the blames they put on him that his government in building Airport road in Benin inflated the contract and so on, I just thought that these people who are accusing him don’t have anything to say, Oshiomhole has come ,worked and served us well. Oshiomhole will go, we will all go but Airport road will remain.
On the personality of All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, Godwin Obaseki he posited ”I have met him and he strikes me anytime I see him like a gentleman. He is quite a peaceful gentleman and according to the comrade governor, Oshiomhole ,Godwin is quite efficient at his duty. Oshiomhole knows him very well, more than I know him, so he can say more about him and we will believe him.
“We pray to God to give us somebody who will be able to create a situation for every Edo man to have three square meals a day,somebody who will join Oba in making sure Edo moves forward. Since you cannot read a man’s mind in his face.”
